Writer's Guidelines

SDO Ghost is a paying market. We pay $5.00 US funds for accepted fiction stories. Payment is on publication, via PayPal . If you are in a country where PayPal is not accepted, please do not submit your story as this is the only way we transfer payment for fiction. With acceptance, we acquire the right to publish your story on our web zine in any form or fashion we deem justified. We also retain archival rights, indefinitely.

We accept RTF or DOC attachments only. If you don't have a word processor that handles one of these file types, you can download a very feature-rich program here, completely free.

Word count isn't usually a problem. We do not have an upper word limit on fiction, but we will rarely accept stories under 1500 words.

We absolutely do not want any submissions in the body of an email message. These will be deleted with lots of bad language and gypsy curses to accompany them, and the author will not be notified. Remember, attachments only.

Please single space your submission, with a double space between paragraphs.

Use italics where needed - but whatever you do, do not underline or use bold text anywhere on your manuscript!

Please put your name and valid email address on the first page of your manuscript - even if you put it in your email.

Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are biggest reasons stories are not accepted at SDO. To better your chances of publication with us, please check and recheck your manuscript for errors and clarity before submitting it.

Type END at the end of your manuscript. (It's amazing how many submissions we get without this.)

Include a small bio (50 words or less) with your manuscript - it needs to be on the last page, under the END. If you don't want a bio, don't send one. We will not ask for one later.

We do accept reprints; however we do not accept simultaneous submissions.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND: We do not reply to submissions until  one week prior to the next issue. This is so we can be fair in selecting the stories for our upcoming issues to all those who would like to submit. For instance, if you submit in April, you may not have an answer until June.
